Capsy

A visual pill tracker for neurodivergent people

Capsy was created for a digital product design assignment through university. The brief required that we design an app for the needs of a real individual. I interviewed my friend about their daily routine and identified their struggles around remembering to take their medication due to their ADHD. They stated that they hadn’t come across any digital resources they found engaging, recounting that existing apps felt too clinical in their design. From this, I identified the need for an app with brighter colours and fun branding and began to look into the pain points of existing apps.

Having ADHD myself, the creation of this concept was important to me as I understood the gravitation towards brighter and more colourful design elements. I found that most medication tracking apps on the market had almost no way to customise the appearance of the pill itself. For people like my friend who take a lot of different medications, remembering what to take solely based on the name was difficult. This prompted the feature of appearance customisation and a menu screen that displayed all the required meds for a specific time slot.

A low fidelity wireframe was created for the basic features of the app, which then informed the creation of a digital wireframe using Figma. The outcome was an interactive prototype exploring the distinct screens and features of the app. While Capsy is not a functional app available to download, I feel the concept created was successful and has the potential to be developed further.

With a visually distinct UI design, creating a brand to match was fairly streamlined. The sans-serif wordmark accompanied by the simple brandmark, potential users can easily identify the purpose of the app and gravitate towards its visual style. The conceptualisation of Capsy was incredibly important to shaping my proficiency in user-centred, brand and UI design.
